Only internal trans filter? Huh?

Only internal trans filter? Huh?
I just took my 2000 Montero Sport in to a dealer for a new timing belt. While it was there, I asked the Service Manager if they'd drop the transmission pan and replace the filter and gasket. He told me that Montero transmissions have filters that are mounted internally (deep inside the trans )and that they don't service them.
This seems really weird to me. Can anyone link me to a service manual so that I can verify this myself? I've been looking for one to no avail. Thanks guys and gals.
EDITED TO ADD THIS -
Well...I found THIS manual....http://www.pajero4x4.ru/piii/.....and it doesn't show a trans filter that I can see. Does anyone know what the dealer's trans service involves? Do they drop the pan, clean it out (and clean the magnets off)....etc.? Anyone ever have this done?

I'm not familiar with the Sport models, however, I do know that the trans. filter is located in the trans. pan on my '02 Monty.
The service is fairly basic. The delicate part is removing/reinstalling the pan.
Use care when removing the pan, and be sure the seal is in place when reinstalling. After a service, keep an eye on the trans. pan area to ensure there are no leaks before reinstalling your skid plate (if you have one).
This is a link to the FSM that I use for my rig, but you should certainly find one specific for your year/model.
