Default Resin cover on 05 Outlander Throttle body

Can anyone explain what the function of the sensor inside the resin cover on the throttle body does on a 2005 Outlander XLS.The manual claims not to loosen the screws as the sensor becomes misaligned and the throttle body can not work normally.
What sensor is it?

I've found it, it's the built-in Throttle position sensor and throttle valve control servo.
Next question is, can the throttle body assembly be replaced without any problems?
