so ive had this car sitting in my front lawn for about 4 months now. when we first got it, it ran great. my mom drove it to work though and she overheated it and kept trying to drive it. she got it home but when i tried to start it up the next day, it wouldnt start, it just stutters and tries to start up. took it to a mechanic and there was bad compression and we needed to buy a new engine. is there anyway to fix this without buying a new engine. a buddy told me that taking the head off and remilling it would solve the problem, but im a complete car nub. if anyone could give me advice on this and tell me how much the work/parts would cost it would be GREAT!

 

Here is the problem you have an aluminum head what happens is when the head overheats the center will swell i beleve 3/32 bigger than normal size. this can cause the gaskits valaves all kinds of stuff in the head to go bad also it can crack the head and with the low or no compression in the head id say it got cracked badly or you over heated it so bad the valves and possably the cams are junk. The best thing if the rings are good is to just throw a loaded "full" head on it and it should be fine if the rings are gone a lower rebuild and new head are in order for the car like i said the head most likly is junk but you can take it off and down to macinest and have them magnaflux it to see if it is cracked if not than see if it is not past the point of milling it to fix the head.

 

whats the price im looking at the have the head taken off and remilled say its still good..... and if its not good?

 

im not 100% sure on the 93 but on a 95 it is about 250-350 for the full magna flux milled and vales done. or 500 for a loaded head.

 

so lemme get this lastthing straigt, the magnaflux is a maybe way of solving the problem, but a loaded head will def fix it?

 

K like he said magnaflux will only tell you if the head is cracked. Then you have to check for warpage. And also check for other damage to the head and if it has (Like I had a sentra that blew a head gasket between cylinders do) a channel cut in between cylinders(Which makes 2 cylinders running in different time into 1 cylinder nowhere near in time with ANYTHING)depending how deep that is (If there is one) you may or may not be able to mill it. Depending on other damages (Warpage cracks whatnot) it could be unrepairable. Then you'll have spent the $ for nothing now if you get the loaded head you'll be CERTAIN everything is right and won't have to worry about all that. The only thing you'll need to worry about at that point would be damage to the rings which isn't incredibly likely but the chance is still there. I'd say the fact that it turns and attempts to start that's it's a slim to none possibility.
