Default pulling engine

so im gonna pull the motor out of my car (93 talon tsi AWD) , im getting a good running engine with turbo for $700 from a 91 plymouth lazer turbo awd,has 60k miles, looks clean like brand new inside, runs great so its a winner - has anyone pulled a motor without pulling the trans first? or does it have to come out? looks like there isnt enough room to me, but im all up for suggestions on the the quicket easiet way to swap it out
i wont have any problems using the 91 motor seing as how mines a 1.8L 6 bolt with a turbo head stuck on it

well i have pulled the motor out of my 93 gsx. what i did was take out the transfer case and tie the driveshaft up. i did not take the trans out, but what i did was take off the trans mount and i just slid it back. it was a biger pain than just dropping it but its less i have to do to get it running. and 2 friends and i just pulled the motor wihout using a hoist. it was a pain in the butt but i wanted the motor out, so we used what we had and made it work. i think the way i did it was the quickest way that i thought but there might be a faster way.
