Thermostat Problem?
Okay, so I have a 1990 GSX AWD with the 4G63-T and I have been driving it for a couple of weeks now and I started to have some cooling problems. When I drive down the road, it heats up really hot, to the point where it is in the red or just before, then, the fans kick on for about 5-10 seconds and cools it down to just above average and then a second or so later it heats right back up again. I have been told by many that it could be a thermostat problem and I just wanted to verify. If you don't think that this is the problem, please let me know as well. Thanks.

You can also spend a few extra bucks and get a thermostat that will stick open when it goes bad. I have one in mine for a just in case. Also if the thermostat doesn't fix the problem then it is the temp sensor in the radiator not telling the fan to come on at the right time. Had that happen to me too GL

Seems as though I've fixed the problem. I changed the thermostat and the radiator cap just to make sure. There was also an air bubble somewhere that was causing some major disfunction but other than that, She purrs. Thanks guys.

Yea for future reference you can take that thermostat out and put it in a boiling pot of water and see if it moves or not...good way to test it. I think it called for 190 degrees on the stock thermostat...not sure? But I bought one that opens 10 degrees cooler like a 180. Good that is is fixed though
