Default RE: TURBO FOR 93 GSX

and this is taken directly from RRE's website.

ORIGINAL RRE

MHI EVO 3 16G Turbo
This is the stock turbo from the Lancer EVO III. Outwardly they look like any other 16G. They use the same compressor housing, TDO-5 exhaust wheel, and the same 7cm volume exhaust housing. Until you pop off the compressor housing... HELLO! Big Wheel. Flows 550 cfm vs. 505 cfm for the regular 16G.

The normal 16-G compressor wheel is 1.83" at the inducer and 2.36" at the exducer. The Big 16-G is 1.89" at the inducer and 2.68" at the exducer. That is just over 5/16" (8mm) larger than the normal 16-G exducer and the same size as the GReddy 18-G (inducer diameter is only .10" smaller than a 18-G). Direct bolt on for 1G cars, you need a standard 16-G Install Kit for 2G cars.
i will also add this from RRE since you stated that you are new to this...

[quote]ORIGINAL RRE

This turbo is made by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The TDO5-16G with the 7 cm exhaust housing will hold over 20 pounds of boost if you ask it to. If you promise to keep the boost down you can use the stock fuel system other than an upgraded fuel pump. To use it's full potential however, you will need at least 550cc injectors and some form of electronics to control them (Apex AFC). The stock 1G turbo flows 405 cfm vs. the 16G at 505 cfm. With the proper porting of the exhaust manifold, Turbo, and O2 sensor housing, you will hardly notice any increased lag. You will however feel tons of top end power!

or a dsmchip.com chip to control the injectors which is alot easier for someone who is just getting into this.

me, personally, i would go with an external wastegate.
x2 when I get a project car going its going to be a disco potato with a tial WG and a custom manifold. I want people to think that the world is ending when I got wot.

i would have the wastegate dump tube re-routed back into the exhaust.

all you need to know it yes, that turbo will bolt up directly, and it is a great first upgrade for a 4g63. read up on roadrace, it is a great source of info for eclipses. slow, as for the external wastegate, it is definitely not needed for this turbo, it would be kinda silly for such a small turbo. Boost creep is hardly ever an issue for a 16g but when it is, simply porting the exhaust side of the turbo, as well as the o2 housing (or in the case of a 1g it is a good idea to upgrade to a 2g housing) will fix the problem.

As for how much boost to run, following roadraces guidelines is in general safe, 15-16psi on stock fuel will be fine. Once you do decide to getbigger injectors, getting a dsmchip is good, but you should still have an safc to fine tune it. Every car is different and just because a chip is flashed for a certain size injector doesnt mean your car will run just right.

I know but they sound cool, the star stage one turbo kits for the 420a use a s16g and they are externaly gated.
