balancing is important in any motor.
ok, take your tires for example, with5 grams out of balance it shakes like no tomorrow at highway speeds, and your tires are maybe going a couple thousand RPM's at the most,.
now spin that same out of balancetire at 10,000 RPM and see if it dont just completely rip the suspesion out from under your car Vs a pefectly balanced tire that will be smooth and way easier to keep moving.
if an engine was 5 grams out it would about tear itself out from under the hood of your car and surely blow up.
being out of balance makes it have to work rerally hard at high RPM just to keep it moving because all of its energy is going towards shaking violently instead of putting the power to the ground, where if its balanced it spins up free and dont care a bit.
a good out of balance limit is about the weight of half a dollar bill

and then you get into the reason for crank scrapers keepig oil off the crank, which adds weight when its carrying oil and throws it off balance

8500? that seems a little high to me.
Who said it was stock?

Magnus Stage 4 2.4L long rod shortblock with Magnus stage 3 head, Pauter rods, Ross pistons, HKS 272/272, etc, etc, etc.

A stock 2.4L rev limit is 7500 rpm. So 8500 rpm is not out of the question.

I don't think crank scrapers do any real good other than control windage. Think about it, at the rpm we turn do you really think there is any oil that isn't getting slung off the crank?

i never really thought about it that way but even if you are scraping just a few oz's of weight off the crank per stroke that is still less rotational mass. i'd like to see waht the difference is on the dyno w/ one of those. vicious that is one sick setup in that pic is that yours? if so what kind of setup are you running? i'm hoping to be pushing apx 600whp out of min when i'm done w/ her using an fp3065

Are you talking about the pics in my gallery or the above post? If so either way, yes that's my set-up. You can read my intro thread to see my parts list. The FP3065 is a great turbo, but you may come up shy on the 600whp goal without some other power adder like nitrous or methanol injection. An easy way to remember power output on a turbo is to look at the lb/min of airflow. A well built and tuned DSM will usually make 10 hp per 1 lb/min of airflow. The FP3065 (GT30 turbine/65 lb/min compressor) will make roughly 650hp, but do to driveline losses you will be in the mid to high 500 whp range.

Why would they make balance shaft eliminator kits then if you need to balance a 4 cylinder motor?

All balance shafts do is counter act the pulses felt from a 4 cylinder motor, they have nothing to do with the balancing of the crankshaft.

and what is the windage cloud... a fog of air and oil rotating around the crank like a tornado, which will constnatly cause drag and throw it out of balance becaus the oil wraps around the crank in the windage cloud - it stays there it wont fly off when its stuck in a rotation of air.
it will never out of balance far enough to cause it to come unglued but it does crate drag and extra stress on parts.
sheps' motor couldnt handle 11,000 + RPM with grace if it wasnt balanced precicely.
with that kind of power at those RPM's the violent vibration would most likely spit the crank right out of the block.
the higher the RPM you turn, the more important balance is. the slighest little bit wont be felt at 2000 but by 7500 you can really feel it.
like your tires again, low speeds you dont feel a thing, 55-60 MPHyour steering wheel shakes and your teeth chatter.

Balancing is very important to the longevity of an engine. It is worth the additional cost. By all means gets it done when building an engine. But you can remove the balance shafts on a stock bottom end 4g63/64 and not cause any internal out of balance. You will just feel more of the pulses found in 4 cyl engines.
