Default 2g power steering problem+more..

Ok well i just purchased a 1998 mitsubishi eclipseand iot was only 2100 with 160k miles on it... it has like power everything but it dosent say if its a gs or rs.. how would i find out..
Plus the car makes a horrible sound when you turn the wheel all the way to eiteher side.. so i took to my neighbor and he said to watch this belt while he turned the wheel..when you turn the wheel the belt (he called it a s - belt) it stoped moving...anyone know whats wrong with the car..

#1, don't keep turning your wheel and keeping it to full lock, it is hard on the power steering pump. When you hear the noise as you are at full lock and want to turn sharp just turn it back the other way just a smidge and you should be fine. Check your fluid, and the belt stopping all the way when you are turned to lock, I don't know. Usually when you hear excessive noise it is because someone has not kept up on the fluid level.

DOHC n/a 2.0ltr?

thats a 420A and that means its a GS.
I.E... is a piece of ****.... like mine.

s belt.
serpentine belt.
its probally low in fluid b/c a power steering compnent is leaking or damaged.
check you ps pump, rack and pinion, and all he hoses/resevoir.

If the belt is stopped that means that its either stretched and unable to move or the pump is ceased

That can still mean that the pump isn't getting it's fluid or that the belt is loose.
If you can push your belt down with hardly any effort....it's loose. If your PS fluid is at or below "MIN", fill it to the "FULL" line.
That doesn't matter whether you have the 420a or 4g63 either....this is true for ANY car btw.

you can tell if it's an rs or gs if it has side skirts. the gs came with side skirts and the RS did not. also the rs was a base model with manual everything so you must have a GS.
