7-Bolt to 6-Bolt--This is what it takes.
Okay so most of you know that i have a 96 GST witch means its FWD and 7-Bolt and i recently swaped in a 6-Bolt engine from 89-92.5 talon that was AWD.
The reason i am writing this is to let you know what it takes to swap the engine from these set-ups.
Okay initially you will need to find a willing shop that is actually going to be deticated to doing this and ACTUALLY knows what there doing not just talking the talk but not walking the walk.
Keep in mind on the 7-Bolt from the Eclipse i spun the bearings off the ballancer shafts, witch is pretty much worse then walking the crankshaft.
Once the engine is pulled you will have to buy a new Flywheel thats for a FWD 6-Bolt motor because from AWD to FWD the teeth are different and are designed differently. I bought a ACT Xact flywheel and that ran me about $265 shipped from Slowboy Racing.
Now since the engine is pulled you are probably going to have to get a new oil pump reguardless if you walked the crank, spun a bearing, or pretty much have anything laying in the oil pan because it will shoot metal shavings throughout your entire engine. My oil pump ran me about and extra $200.
Also while the engine is out you are going to have to relocate seonsors and literally design a way to make them read what they need. This depends on the skill of your mechanic. It was like $50-$75 for me.
I also had to purchase a new clutch to go from the AWD to the FWD transmission.I got some one off eBay for like $200 but a ACT is like $350 or somethign like that. Don't try and think your going to be cool and get some HKS **** because its $1,300.
And fluids. $50-$75
Im pretty sure this is all you will need for your generaly swap. but if your like me this is what you will need.
Flywheel
Knock Sensor
Clutch
Axel
Fluids
Sensor Relocating.
I also put on a new Turbo, Air Intake, MBC, ARP Head Studs and a 4-Layer Head Gasket.
You may also need a new Timing belt, water pump and oil pump, depending on if you slipped teeth.
P.S if you do do this i would STRONGLY recomend a balancer shaft eliminator kit to save you a world of trouble.
If you have any questions. Ask me iv pretty much had to buy a new everything
