I wonder if a haynes or chilton manual would say what the hole is for or even show if there is supposed to be a hole there. It's not supposed to leak oil. Stop by an auto parts store and take a peak inside of a manual and see if it shows it in an illustration. Or, you could stop by a mits dealer and park outside of where they do repairs and ask one of their techs...I'm sure they wouldn't charge you anything to take a peak -- or their parts dept may be able to pull up a picture of it on their computer. Maybe it will show a plug that they sell that should be in it.

You photo didn't show the entire valve cover, but I'm guessing that you already have a breather hose somewhere else...

Let us know what you find out..

Ok, went to the mitsu dealer today. They gave me good news and bad news. Good news is I can stop the leaking. My PCV Valve is clogged with JB Weld..why? Because I bought a valve cover of the net with a chip where the PCV valves goes in so I used JB Weld to hold it in place. Dealer said it was a good idea but some of it has apperently gotten into the valve so that is makeing back pressure witch is blowing the oil out of the small breather hole up front. They said I can take the valve cover back off and just drill the guts out of the PCV valve and it should be fine. Bad news is my car is right at 150000 miles and the guy said it possibly won't last much longer. Said something about the piston walls turning egg shaped and causeing blow by and excess pressure in the engine. He said I could have it rebuilt for about 4 grand Now I don't know what to do. I love my car but do not have the money to get it rebuilt. I wanted to use it for shows and possible racing. Any ideas or comments?

Thanks,
Stephen

Rebuilt for $4,000 [sm=smiley22.gif] Try finding out how much a new engine or second hand thats in better condition and than compare the 2 probably save you.

1st of all -- you could take a brand new car to a dealer mechanic and he'll tell you that it will need a clutch in 50,000 miles and that you should go ahead and get it done now. So, if your car is running good and the gas mileage is fine, then I wouldn't worry about it until the car dies.

2nd - don't get it rebuilt at the dealer. They'll charge you an outrageous amount. Call your local auto parts store and find out how much a rebuilt engine costs. I bet it's not too much. Then call a local foreign auto mechanic (that's not the dealer) and ask them how much they'd charge to rebuild your motor. I bet it's more like $1500. Then call a junk yard. I bet they sell a block for $100.

3rd - how much does a pcv valve cost? Like $5. Can't you just change it out?

No, I kinda shot my self in the foot on the PCV valve. The valve cover I bought (off ebay for 50 bucks) had a small chip where the PCV valve bolts in so I used JB Weld to hold it in place. [:@] Anyway, I am gonna take the valve cover off tonight and drill out the the guts of the PCV valve and anything else that is blocking it. The mitsu dealer said it should work fine after I do that. As far as rebuilding the engine, I think I will wait and see what happens with. May not be able to race around as much as I do now to try and make it last longer. Oh well, thanks for the replies.
