95 eclipes rs 2.0l non tubo battery light on and dies
just trying to figure this out my sis car just replaces the alt and battery but the light comes on still and then dies while running plus it now says the voltage regulator is faulty and im trying to understand where it is located and im not sure if it is 420a or the other block that they use.
is it the ecu, pcmi or internal in the alt? or just a new g meter is needed when the alt is brand new rebuild.

Definitely look for bad fuses first as suggested in the engine bay fuse box and under dash. Could be as simple as that. If none are found... its process of elimination.
If Battery and Alternator are good as is all associated wiring and the system still won't charge its likely the ECU since the regulator is built in. You could get a rebuilt ECU for a couple hundred or pick up a used one which may or may not last...OR...if the car runs but the only thing wrong is the regulator, you could wire up an external voltage regulator like I did. The alt light will be on when doing this and you'll have a constant code 41 improper field switching or something like that for OBD1 cars (not sure about OBD2 code) but if the regulator is the problem this will fix it without changing the ECU. And when the regulator goes again...you change a $20 part instead of the whole computer. Trick is to make sure the new external regulator is well grounded or it won't work right. I also added a separate ground wire to be certain.
Here's a link to a graphic that shows how to do it. Keep in mind the topic was charging issues related to Megasquirt so ignore all of that. You'll be wiring as the diagram shows and the 2 field connections will no longer be connected to the ECU. Megasquirt Install problems. | DSMtuners
If doing this from scratch isn't your thing...there are also kits available that contain the parts and instructions. Kit may or may not have a resistor or something to turn off the alternator light after this mod but I cant say for certain: https://alternatorparts.com/external...nator-kit.html
