95 GSX
I am looking at a 95 GSX now. Its at a dealer and he wants $5300. I thought it looked pretty good in the pics. Never owned a eclipse before so i dont know what to expect and i'm going to look at it on saturday. My question is is that a decent price, i should be able to get more off though, and is there anything i should look for when i go and drive it? Also I'm looking to mod it sometime, hopefully starting in summer, what should some of the first things be? rebuild because of the crankwalk issue? Thanks and here is the ad .

RE: 95 GSX
let me start by saying there is no really way to get rid of crankwalk unless you drop in a 6 bolt motor from the earlier (1990-1992.5) eclipse/talon. 2nd, my gaudian bought his 95 gsx with 200,000miles for $5,000. I bought my 95 tsi awd (same thing) for $3,500 with 135,000 miles on it. Make sure it goes through all the gears fine, make sure the clutch is ok, make sure the brakes are good. Check for rust/rot. Check under the oil fill cap to see if there is any white foam/slime. If there is, turn around and walk away because it will at least need a head gasket.

The term crankwalk is overused. Dont worry about it. That price is about right. Its a fair one. I would try and get it a little lower but dont be pissed if you cant. You need to make sure the maintanance has been done... like timing belt, waterpump, tensioner etc...
Now, you should pull the dipstick and see if the oil is dark. Ask the person if the oil has been changed recently.. if he answers yes and the oil is black... walk away. If its golden brown then its good. Look under the oil cap for "mayo". Its a white goop that indicates a bad head gasket. Also sniff it to see if it smells of gas. Remember to push every button in the car, check cruise control and all that. Dont be scared if the engine has a little tick to it. Its common and its called lifter tick... nothing to worry about at all. When you are test driving the car remember to hit every single gear incluiding reverse and go full throttle. The best way to test the clutch is when you are in 5th gear the load on the engine is greatest... and go full throttle and see if it slips. Also remember to look for smoke from the exhaust... black smoke is ok.. thats normal on turbo cars.
I hope it all works out!
