Default model/part number

I bought an ecu, still didn't work. So I called the company with a few questions. The ecu I purchased was out of a 97 eclipse gst 5 speed, my car is a 96 gst auto....... they said the ecu should still work cause the model/part number matches the one I brought in to them. Is this true or were the people who sold it to me (a well known parts company) just idiots and left me with the wrong part???

Default difference

I have a buddy that knows everything eclipse. he told me that between the 4g63 turbo engine in the 96 is set up differently than the 97. there was a change in body style from 96-97, which included changing various things with the turbo set up under the hood, as well as how it was controlled. eagle talon tsi (or whatever) doesn't even have the same computer as the gst or gsx eclipse...

there are differences between 96-97 eclipse 4g63 engines, as well as differences in eagle talon tsi(turbo) and gst/gsx
