'97 Eclipse 2L, non-turbo 4G63 issue
Hello guys,
Just got a '97 Eclipse 2L, 4G63 engine non-turbo, around 200k KM on board (wouldn't bet on it cause **** happens here in Europe), for my son (and here's why: Golf 4? - too boring, 3 Series BMW? - too popular amongst gypsies here in Romania, Alfa whatever? - bleah and so on...he wanted a car with personality...fair enough)...
I did not finish yet the registration process and here comes some problems already: to be mentioned that i only drove it for around 100 km so far, in town and for a couple of hours in a crappy auto-polygon for my son to exercise (he does'nt have a licence yet)....Back to the issue...at some point, after about 35 - 40 minutes of engine running, he (my son was driving while in polygon) stalls the engine...ok, it happens..starts again as normal but in 3-5 seconds the engine slowly dies...and so on many times...finally I start making calls to friends thinking i'll have to toe it back home or spend the night in there...The resting time...about 10 - 15 minutes apparently did good as the engine finally started and didn't die again so we rushed home...i parked, stopped the engine and attempted to start it again...all the same, 3 - 5 seconds after it died...Next day, at noon, my son tried to start/shut it down several times, with engine cold after night and sure enough it goes well every time with no sudden deaths...
I am guessing, but just guessing, that the air or oxygen sensor might be faulty and sending wrong information to the computer therefore it is mixing wrongly the air/gasoline...
Any thoughts about it?...I should mention I have no expertise on car mechanics/electronics other than basic things but i do have workshop and service manuals for this car and from the readings i made the said guess...
Thanks for patience...
