98rs overheating at idle but stops cools at 3k

i had the same problem with my 97 rs and i changed the thermostat and the coolant and my coolant was bad (it was watery)...the guy i bought it off of never changed it....but since i changed it, it has not been overheating at all and that was around a year ago
