Default All hands on deck... I need help bad

So I've only owned my Eclipse for a few weeks. It's been great. It's been well taken care of and it's awesome. I have all of the service records and can't complain. I unfortunately inherit cars right prior to a malfunction. This one I have briefly conned the computer into allowing me to drive it, yet it is getting harder each day.

My '93 Eclipse GS wouldn't start the other day. After a few hundred tries, it gives... but without any driver response the car begins to rev up and down between 1000 and 2500 consecutively for about 2 minutes, and then it idles back to around 1100. A little later the check engine light comes on. I have no clue as to the code or the problem. The engine would stall and it almost felt like without my foot on the gas there was no fuel intake from the car. The check engine light would come on, but as soon as I kicked in the gas... it would shut off immediately, and repeat. check all your conections under the hood, vacum connections, O2 sensor?

Also, possibly the fuel pump. Or TPS. All else fails...take it to the stealership and have them run a diagnostic.

id guess idle air control or tps for the engine revving its self

i had the same thing happen to me with my 95 GSX.. it would go up to about 1200-1300 and then it would drop down to about 400 rpm.. i putz around with my idle control speed put it back to where it normally idles at (around 780-800ish) and its been fine ever since.. and that happened in june..
