Default any advice for 99 GS Spyder?

Hi,
I just bought a 99 GS Spyder. i absolutely love it. I used to drive hondas but now i will never go back!!! I just recently bought the car and i was thinking about doing an AWD conversion. Does anyone have any helpful information about this? or have done it themselves? Also, the service engine soon light just came on... you know how it is, the car runs fine till you leave the dealership!! It didn't have any of the service manuals with it. it has 66k miles on it and seems to be mechanically sound. Any one know what may be causing that light to come on? What type of scheduled maintance may be needed for that year and miles? Any info would be awesome... still getting used to the whole mitsubishi thing.

Well midnight has started that on his GST but I don't think it would be worth to go through for a GS. Take the money you'd spend on that and get a GSX, the stock turbo is really worth it if you want to build up your car. Plus the GS engine has a 11:1? compression where the stock turbos have an 8.5:1. So if you wanted to turbo yours it's not setup as well already. I would get some power to it if you're going to keep it before spending the money on the AWD conversion. Right now on the stock car it's not going to make a big different in performance.

it would add weight that you really dont need untill you build up a little, unless you live in a hella snowy area and really need it, but my 98 runs great in the snow and rain without the AWD, can be more fun also..........

AHHHH! HERESY!!! BLASPHEMY!!! Doesn't anybody listen to me ever???? You can do the AWD swap, and actually benefit a little from it if you know your way around transmissions. The gearing in the f5m31(96-99 2.4l Eclipse spyder tranny) would actually be great for an engine like a turbo 4g64 coupled to an AWD system. The gearing takes advantage of the low and mid ranges in the powerband, and the 4g64 makes most of power around those same ranges. If you know how to take apart and reassemble trannys, the w5m33 and f5m33/31 are almost identical on the inside. A 4g64 with a 16g would create loads of power at low RPMS and the f5m31 gears would make use of that power. The 2g eclipse 4g64 has a 9.5:1 CR, which can be lowered with a thicker head gasket if you decide to do a head swap, but many have found that the 9.5:1 is ok with FI and the 4g64 pistons are quite durable under the pressure. Just pay attention to fuel and timing! You can take a stock engine very far if you can fine tune the fuel and timing properly. Plus, the 2g Spyder GS is a nice car, stock weight is around 2890lbs, whereas the Spyder GST is ~3080lbs. On another 4g64 forum i was on, we calculated the weight of the AWD & Turbocharged Spyder GS to be a little over(around 30-50lbs) the stock GSX weight, however it would surpass a GSX in terms front-to-rear weight ratio and (of course) lower insurance costs. The Spyder GS is the perfect tuner car! I still miss mine...

we were saying it really wouldnt be worth it on a stock gs n/a............. obviously if you turbo it, or do some engine work, the AWD would benifit the car
