Hey Everyone, Newbie Here. Yesterday I bought a 98 Eclipse GST 5 Speed, turbo back exhaust, new stock clutch, 18in rims with 67,000miles for $8,500. I was having a blast driving it around for an hour, and I decided to check to see if it would spin the tires alittle. I tried to do a small launch and the axle spit out. Car is under warranty for next 60 days but I'm concered. After I bought the car I learned about crankwalk, but I only have a vague understanding of what it is, so my question is would that have anything to do with the axle just popping out? The car was driving nearly perfect and was making no noises or vibrations.

Well I am very glad to hear that, but I'm still somewhat concered how easily the axle just popped out. Has anyone ever heard of the axle spitting out when trying to do a small burnout? Thanks

 

the splines of the axle were probably already worn down from where they go into the differential. your spinning of the tires just caused the problem to get worst and break. i am sure you are not the first person to spin tires in that car. chalk it up to the previous owner treating the car like crap.
