Cam Sensor Location on 2.0L Turbo

Removed a blown-up 97 2.0L turbo engine with the cam sensor on the rear of the camshaft and installed a 99 2.0L turbo engine with the cam sensor on the front on the camshaft. Spliced the 99 cam sensor connected into the 97 wiring harness. Had to swap the spark plug wires on the coil to get the engine running because 2 & 3 were firing when 1 & 4 were suppose to fire. What needs to be done to get the plug firing back to the proper order when going from the rear cam sensor to a front cam sensor?

The wires to the cam sensor on the 97 GST wiring harness were the same color as the 99 cam sensor connector. Originally connected the like wires together and had to swap the spark plug wires to get the firing right. When I swapped the red and black wires leaving the striped blue wires connected, the engine ran but not very good. It appeared to run as if in a degraded condition when the cam sensor is lost. I do not have wiring diagrams for either of these engines.

So you swapped the plug wires arround to get the right firing order... but still a problem? I would say check that the plugs and wires are good... i cant really think of another reason...
