Check Engine P0446
Hi guys. This is a tough one so I am reaching out to the rest of the Eclipse owners out there. Maybe some of you have experienced the same error and can shed some light on how to troubleshoot and hopefully repair it. I have a 1999 Eclipse GS-T and the Check Engine light turned on. I ran a scan tool and it returned the following:
P0446 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Valve Circuit
I used the tool to clear the alert just in case it was a false positive but the alert came back after restarting the car once or twice. Searching the web, the only insightful info that I found was trying to replace the gas cap. I haven't tried that yet but I find it hard to believe that it is a bad gas cap.
If anyone has any experience with this or can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Did the light by chance come on after you recently filled up with gas? I threw a a different code "Fuel trim malfunction" and it was the gas cap so its a possible place to start. Cap is about $8 from Autozone.

Natedogg,
Thanks for the reply. I don't recall the light coming on after a gas filling. I just recall turning it on after leaving a friend's house and the light popped up.My gut feeling tells me that it is not the gas cap but something else. I guess for $8 it is worth a try. I'll post again after I replace the cap.
Thanks again..!

RE: Check Engine P0446
It has to do with your EVAP system. Its either gonna be a bad EVAP canister or its gonna be EVAP vent lines clogged or the EVAP sensor is bad. Here is a diagram of the system
your best bet is to bring it to someone who would know how to inspect these parts
