Default Dead cylinder question?

Hello all I am new to the forums and new to the eclipse. I did post in the new member section first

I have had this car for 4 months and last weekend i was driving home with the cruise control on at 70MPH when i felt this little vibration. I took it off of cruise and stepped on the gas, And the car shook real bad. Since i have parked it i put new plugs and wires on it and still the same problem. I did a compression test on the car and the second cylinder from the drivers side is dead. It reads 50 psi with oil or no oil in the cylinder. The other 3 cylinders read 175 I dont have oil in the water or water in the oil. And my check engine light is not on. has anyone had this problem that could tell me what they think? Im leaning towards a blown head gasket or a stuck valve. What do you guys think?
If i need head parts or even a rebuilt head. Where is a good place to look? Thanks in advance and i look forward to hearing from you guys.

I am not new to turbo cars. But i am new to this problem.

It sounds like a valve maybe to me as well... you can have the head rebuilt be a machine shop if you can pull it off yourself that is. Really that is all I can suggest though. Its obviously not holding its compression so if you can pull the head yourself then do it and you might be able to see the problem from there since you know what cyl. to look at

Try adding a tablespoon of oil down into that cylinder to see if the compression goes back up. If it does, you have a low end problem as the oil you added is now providing a temporary seal which increases your readings. If it doesn't go up, you can do a cylinder leak down test to see where the compression loss is coming from. It will give you an idea of what you have in front of you- rather than taking the head off and assuming it's a valve problem.

Good Luck!

Yeah i tried the oil in the cylinder trick and it didnt change the reading on the compression. I will try the leak down test before i get too carried away. Thanks for the input so far.

dosent sound like a head gasket, if it was there would be more then one cyl dead and you would have water every where, ther reason you not throwing a cel is because the cyl is still firing, its just not working. Soulds like a fu3ked valve.

i would bring it to a mechanic if you cant fix it yourself. get it towed to avoid further damage. i blew one of the rods on my eclipse and it was knocking bad and i was hoping it would last me another month so that i wouldnt have to take a loan to get it fixed..but of corse my engine blew up instead. now i get to take a loan out and i can officially say that i have my entire front end redone lol

Yeah I'd say if you don't have the tools to do it (And a valve job is a rather intensive job toolwise) have a tech do it for you.
