Default diagnostic equip / fuel pump

i thought the fuel pump died on my 95 non-turbo.. i've killed lots of fuel pumps in my time. i was cruising at 45 when the engine turned off [no sputtering], speedometer and rpms dropped to 0, although the battery was seemingly fine because i recall the headlights staying on. car turns over, but won't start. battery, alternator, fuses, relays, spark plugs, starter, etc.. all fine.

fuel pump wasn't powering up with the key. so i replaced it with a new one, replaced the high pressure fuel line, replaced the fuel filter, checked the fuses and the relays, and yes there is gas in the tank...

still doesn't turn on with the key. it has been suggested that it might be the wiring, or even the computer?

but i was also led to believe that there is no diagnostic tool you can hook up to a 95's computer... other than at the dealership shops. isn't there one out there i can rent or purchase?

any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you check for power at the fuel pump connector?

Check your ASD relays on the firewall. The fuel pump relay is located there also.
Check the relay information for the non-turbo cars in the FAQ section here.

do you have a CEL because if you do all you need is an OBD2 reader that will display the codes that the ECU is throwing. Autozone would run it for free but since you cant even start the car that doesnt help much.

you can rent a obdII tester from autozone for some cash, but once you return it they'll return the money

It depends on the car if it has an obd II connector, technically its obd i but I know some gm's started in 94 w/ obd II cennectors.
