Eclipse stall
Ok I am here trying to figure something out hopefully someone can help me. My buddy owns a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse, the problem is when he slows to a stop, the engine rpms drop to about 2-3000 while he coast and when he stops the ewngine dies, when he goes to start the car it dies imediately unless he gives it gas right away. I thought it might be the cadalylic converter but I am also not very familer with Mitsubishis so I thought I would ask thoughs that know if anyone can help me please e-mail me at 5herrings@bellsouth.net
I'd have to say as an offhand guess it's in need of an idle adjustment. Possible a EFI service. Or maybe a new feul filter. Depends the exact symptoms of the problem when and how it happens and what he's done to the car and when. Has he kept up with regular maintenance and changed feul filter at least once a year? Has he done ANYTHING to clean the intake? Have those checked first it may cure the problem.
well it sounds like a idle control sensor or the idle is off. dose it alwase do it or just sometimes if it only dose it some times that i would say a sensor or worst case the brain has gone bad. if it is dose it sometime but not all the time i would go to the dealer and have them hook it up to pin point the problem.
If it were teh catalytic converter it would run like crap but not stall out until it got so clogged that the backpressure from the exhaust is too great then what may happen is like what happened to me in my V6 Celebrity it started shooting spark plugs out of the engine it was seperating the ceramic core from the metal threads.
