ECU AC issues

ECU AC issues
Ok, so I went to have my ac recharged and as I suspected my compressor wasnt coming on. They did some testing and said that my ECU was not sending power to the AC. They connected a wire from the fuse to the battery and the compressor came on. They wanted to install a new switch to fix the issue.
I wanted to know if this makes sense and is common of ecu's. And whether it is a sign of my ecu about to go or something. I ripped out all the excess stereo wiring the previous owner left in to see if that was the issue, but none of that worked.
Can anyone clarify things for me. I didnt see why we had to add a new switch as opposed to rewiring the control or something.
Any advice would be great.
Thx

RE: ECU AC issues
If you check the VFAQ site, the ECU pinout they have to 2G turbos show that pin 22 goes to the A/C clutch relay. Now all you have to do is check for a signal output from pin 22 and if you have a signal from it, then find the clutch relay and replace it.

RE: ECU AC issues
Ok, I went to test my ECU. I am pissed coz I am not getting anything from pin 22. What I wanted to know is if I am testing the right pin. I did not pull out the ECU so I am wondering if the side facing the radio is the bottom of the ECU? Is that right?
I tested the ECU with the car on and even with the AC running. Odd thing is I didn't get anything from it. In fact, pins 20 and 21 didn't give me anything either. Pin 23 gave me something ( i kn ow it is not cooling related).
So if I tested the right pin, does this mean my ecu is f'd up?
Thanks

RE: ECU AC issues
If you tested the right pin and have no voltage going to the a/c clutch you should also check the inputs to the pcm that comand that a/c clutch on. What swich did they want you to replace, the a/c pressure switch? B/c if that isnt working right it wont power upthe a/c clutch.

Ok, but I am not sure what pin to check on the pcm. (if I am not mistaken, the pcm is the smaller box by the gas pedal right?)
They wanted to add a new switch to cut off the compressor. This was becoz they wanted to rewire the power to the compressor and then add a switch to turn the compressor off. So basically the switch/control on my dash would be useless.
Can I just run a damn wire from the fuse to the damn battery?
Thx
