Default engine interchangeability

hi sorry for such a lame question but im a old guy with a 96 eclipse 2.0 non turbo the engine threw the timing belt i suspect a lot of internal damage can anybody tell me if any more common chrysler engines will interchange with my eclipse. i have looked around the net it seems the mitsubishi motors are pretty pricey.i would appreciate any help to try to keep this beast on the road and out of the salvage yard thanks

why not just rebuild the head, since that should be all thats wrong with the car. Its usually pretty rare to get damage to the cylinders themselves. Probably just need the valves replaced. A broken timing belt is not even close to the end of an engine.

i agree. If you're doing the labor yourself it would be cheaper than getting a replacement engine. As far as interchangability, the 420a was in a couple of chyslers to include the avenger, neon and some caravans. The 4g64 sohc was found in the eclipse syders as well as the early galants. There are probably a couple i'm missing but its early

+2. Rebuilding a head isn't really that hard, really anybody can do it as long as they have a manual. Chances are its just a few bent valves, and its cheaper to rebuild the head then buy a new engine....specially now-a-days.
