Default engine issue

hey guys im new to the forum.

i am looking at buying a 1995 eagle talon Esi that i found for $500. the interior and exterior look really nice but the engine is messed up. I think the guy told me that someone put the head on wrong and didnt set the timer (correct me if im wrong) and it cracked or blew one of the heads or something. lol sorry i dont know too much about engines.

but i have been looking around and trying to find out what kind of engine i need and the amount of bolts (i think 6 or 7) if im correct in the eagle talon the engine is a 4g36 or a 420a...right?

thanks guys

oh and do you think you could give me an estimated price for one of those engines

Since you have an ESI, you have the 420A engine. Check out Ebay for engines, you can usuallyfind them pretty cheap.

Nope! 6 or 7 bolt only is in reference to the 4G63.

Have fun : )

alright well i found out what is wrong with the engine. it needs a new head gasket and the head needs to put back on right and needs to be retimed. is this worth buying a new engine for it? or should i keep this one and fix it. it only has around 90k milage on it

just fix the head gasket. It is actually very common for a head gasket to go on those cars. Your best bet is to just replace the stock gasket with a better cometic gasket shown here

Oh JUST the head gasket?

Are you sure that you dont have bent valves?

Take a look on the engine and see if you have marks on the pistons from valves hitting them.
