Default Finally got the car...

So I ended up getting a 2000 Tampa Blue Pearl Eclipse GS ...not exactly what I wanted but Im am very happy with it, and its growing on me. Im going to be changing the seat covers, the speedometer back lights, add the stock wing, I think thats about it. Any suggestions for engine modifications let me know, but I dont really think it would be worth adding an intake?? Now ...the dealer I bought the car from said he was going to fix it up before giving selling it to me. He put new brake pads, buffed out a few scratches, put in a new hose, and said he was going to replace the tires. However he put two different set of tires on it. I made a fuss about it, and questioned why he wouldnt have put four of the same tires? He said that they were the same size, and he couldnt find two more of the same ones, and claimed it didnt matter and their "just as good." I said I needed him to find four of the same ones before I bought it because I didnt want a half *** car that Im paying for, and his response was that if I gave him $100 for the tires then he'd install them at no charge. I refused to do this because I've already spent enough, also he didnt budge a penny on the asking price, and when I drove the car home the fuel level was on E ... Not only did I have about a thirty five minute drive ahead of me, but I was stuck in rush hour on the highway before I even noticed the low fuel level. Getting this car was a nightmare from start to finish, but was he right for doing what he did with the tires?

Unless specified in the sale agreement a dealer has no obligation to do any work on a vehicle. If he agreed to make the car pretty that's one thing, if he agreed to put pads on the car great, but specific things like brand new matching tires, unless specified he doesn't have to, as long as the tires he puts on are the correct size and rating for the car it doesnt matter unless of course they are unsafe. as far as the fuel goes, it varies between dealers, some with give you a voucher for a tank, $10 or as lows as $5. some dealerships around here even offer $100 gas card if u buy a new vehicle. Im sorry u feel ya got screwed, but i think u ought to take ur new car to either an independent mech or maybe even a speed shop to make sure you didn't get taken. I know in most states there are lemon laws and if you find that the car is bad in areas where the dealer said it was good you can take the car back within 30 days and get a refund. just check your sales contract to see what all the dealer states is wrong if anything, id also check a carfax report and do a title check to make sure that no problems were ever reported on this car such as accidents, floods or fire, also make sure it doesnt have a salvage title.

i hope all this helps

Yea, they really don't have to do anything like that unless it's in the contract. If he told you he'd put 4 tires on it and didn't tell you which ones then you're kinda stuck. Just cause the dealership doesn't sound too helpful you may wanna have someone just check over it to make sure there's nothing you don't know about.

Yea, me too, if you're buying a car without a warranty I wouldn't want to buy it from someone who's trying to cheap out on the stuff they said they would fix. I also don't want you to feel bad about buying the car or think we're calling you stupid. I didn't even ask the place I bought mine from to put tires on, I had to do it after I bought it. Afterwards I was like, I probably should have asked for a little bit of a price break, but hey, no reason to worry about what you can't change.

Well I did buy an extended w. for apx $800 for one year back to back coverage ...all said and done with the tax, e.w., etc, $9,700(apx 10K) , but the car is running beautifully. I do have to take it back all the way to the dealership because there is a rattling noise comming from either the sunroof or the dashboard its very suddle, and only occurs ocasionally when going over a rough road or pot hole, but hey I paid enough to have them fix every dame little impairment! Has anyone ever has this problem? Also the interior lights on the gearbox (P,N,R,D, and tip + -) do not light up so at night it can be annoying. And the interior back light on the clock is extremly dim ...you can hardly see the time at night because the orange backlight is so dim. And right from the get go I did not like the salesman(owner of the place) tacticts ...so I really didnt even consider the car once I left the lot. Then however I found nothing else, it came down to crunch time, and the place kept calling me about the car. It was a last minute decision I had to make so like I said it wasnt exactly what I wanted, and I much rather would have given my money to someone else, but it fell upon the matter of timing, so I bought it. But hey if he wants to be a tough guy with me throughout the whole process, like im some dumb girl who doesnt know anything( which i happened to know more about cars than he did ...thats what growing up with two brothers,an older male cousin, a father, and an uncle will do to you lol), then Ill be a tough chick and make him fix every little nook and cranny Im not feeling 100% satisfied with ...after all its under warrantee

I def have a better picture of the whole thing knowing all that. I can understand that, just don't dwell too much on having to settle, I'm sure you'll love the car after you get some of these little bugs fixed.
