FOUND A GSX.. should i buy it?
Wsup guys .. im new to these boards and just started on my researching.
well ive been browsing some car websites and i found this 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX for sale!
53,000 miles. Manual. Black. Black interior. (doesnt say if its salvaged or clean titled)
Well the price is set at $9,900, but im sure i can get it down.
What do you guys think? I hurd cars with high milage are bound to cause problems. My parents
along with myself are not educated when it comes to buying a used car, because we usually buy new cars.
Do you guys think i will experience problems with this car? I have no idea how to repair or fix a problem
god forbid if the car stops or something on the freeway.
i am planning to mod the car.
thanks for viewing my thread. i would love to hear everyones opinion.

thats a good price given the car is in excellent condition. You buying from dealer or private? Most important thing is to do a compression test, with 50k miles tho most everything should be fine unless it was abused. If you dont know what youa re doing take it to a mechanic, for around $100 they'll do like a 150 point inspection on everything and tell you exactly whats wrong. If the seller wont let you do that before you buy walk away immediately.

thanks for the info.. hmm ill take a mechanic, but i dont know any. my uncle spotted a dent in the front hood, could that mean something was hit in the engine? It is a private seller btw.

It depends. If it's 2 wheel drive the tranny should be fine. The AWD tranny's are the ones that I've seen have alot of problems (A friend of mine had 3 different ones dumped in his in as many months). I also recommend getting a carfax report on it to find out any accidents it's been in or if it's had flood damage or whatnot. It will also give you an accident report on the car so you'll know what the dent in the hood is from.

i have 110k miles on my awd tranny and have been to the track numerous times, if you know how to treat a tranny it will last a long time. If you revv up to 6k rpms and drop the clutch every time you launch dont expect it to last long. The good thing is there are dsm tranny shops that will turn your tranny into a full blown race tranny that will almost never break for around $800-1200. Thats wayy cheaper than even rebuilding it at the dealer to stock specs.
If you want to check and see if the tranny is in good shape though, you can test a couple things when you drive it
1. make sure it goes into reverse easily.
2. get up to speed in 2nd gear, then put it in neutral, slow down a lil, and try to downshift into first gear at around 25-30mph. If it goes right in its in great shape, if it doesnt want to go in or if it grinds it has some problems.

I believe there is a carfax place (It's all online) where you pay either $12 for one car or $20 for unlimited car reports. I can't remember the site exactly but I think Yahoo advertises it. Just do a search for carfax and I'm sure you'll find it.
