I purchased a 1997 Eclipse for my 16 year old son. After taking it in for several repairs, it started idling very rough and stalling at stops. I took it back in to the shop and they said they hosed down the engine before I picked it up and water got into the cheap plug wires. Aired them out and it ran fine for a couple of days. Then they changed the plug wires, helped again for a couple of days. Thenwe changed spark plugs. Still have the problem some of the time, not always. Seems to happen mostly when the car is cold but that is not always the case. We don't know where to go from here.

 

have you checked the distributor? if they sprayed down the engine it could have gotten on a ton of electronics that would be causing this to happen. i would take it back to the shop that sprayed it down and bitch at them and make them fix it

 

check for water in the fuel.or try a bottle of fuel antifreeze it will desolve any water in the tank.water is heaver than fuel and will settle in the bottom of the tank,the pick up tube for the fuel pump will then suck the water in before or along with the fuel.check the easy things before you put out alot of money for repairs.winter time is a prime time for water in fuel from any station.it just happens....ps.
