Default GST questions

ok well i have been told that 95-96 crankwalk more offten tehn 97-99... why is that? just cause the age or is there something different to there bearing setup, or what not? If so what would i do to the engine when rebuilding it so its not as easy, or would i have to buy a 97-99 block?

1) Don't allow yourself to overestimate crankwalk. Those motors are usually beaten on, but there are some 2Ga cars with the original motor. One more thing, even those year cars...not all of them walk. Yes, 95-96 are thee crankwalk prone 2G motors because the 2GBs had something done to help alleviate the walk, but can still happen...hell, it can happen to any manual tranny motor out there. Those quickest to yell out crankwalk are the ones who have jumped on the crankwalk train because they don't know what it is and/or what could possibly cause it.
2) Don't worry about crankwalk, jut replace the bottom with a 1G bottom and be done with it or replace the entire 2G motor with a 1G motor. Why? Because they have a stronger crank system.
3) Run the 2GA motor until or if the motor walks, then get a 1G bottom or 1g motor.

Either way, to reitterate what Silvercoupe said, don't over estimate it, even Supras can crankwalk.

yes supras car but not that often, the 2G is alot ALOT more common to have bottom end issues than even a 6 spd supra (which also can crankwalk given the wrong crankpulley clutch flywheel combos)

its nothing to get your self worked up over and start pulling your engine and swapping motors just yet, just have a plan ready if it ever does

i bought a 6-bolt to build up, but hopefully my 7 won't walk. The only reason i bought a 6 bolt was so that when i spend a bunch of money on an engine, hopefully it won't die cause of something stupid.

yea man thats something i was gonna suggest, you can buy a 1g block or motor and build it up. then that way if you're motor does blow you'll have a built one ready to pop back in. but crankwalk isnt as normal as people say it is really.
