If you use the original front diff from the car, and the original t-case it should work.
Or use the VR4 t-case and leave the trans in tact to get a lower final ratio at both ends.
Either way you go you have to match up the gear ratos.

 

well no you cant mount a 22-spline vr4 tranny to a 2g 23-spline tranny. Unless the front housing of the t-case for the 23 spline is modified. But i doubt that was done. I also agree though that the final drive ratios have to match also.

Yah.. apparently.. when my tranny exploded (original stock to my knowledge) the shop by chance got a vr4 tranny instead of the gsx. They installed it and the whole car was vibrating because they were told it was a gsx tranny and was wondering why it didnt work right. Brought it to another shop and was told the tranny in there belongs to a VR4. So the tranny shop took it back put in my original front diff and transfer case to the VR4 tranny and it works. More technical details i do not know.

 

ok thats what i thought they needed the parts from the VR4 and its because of what i said. The connecting rod from the tranny that goes to the t-case on a VR4 has 22-splines (i know i have one in my basement ) and the 92-99 eclipse's have a 23-spline. So they dont match up. Thats why they had to do that. But congrats on having that tranny. Just do you know those with built stronger than the eclipse trannies. Alot of 1g guys are always looking for those. But just so you know if you ever have a problem with your tranny or t-case and need to replace it you need to buy a 22-spline only which you can get from another vr4 or from a 90-91 eclipse/talon

 

sorry for all of the confusion on the subject. im trying to fiugure out what i need to do the swap, i know ill need the vr4 trans, the trans case, and the part that goes in teh interior to shift so i can actually use all 6 gears, what else would it need?

 

i still dont ever remember a 6 speed 4 cyl.....

 

yea im still pretty sure that you cant use the 6spd tranny in a 4g63

 

Thanks engineer.. i have the vr4 transfer case in my basement.. the front differential the homo shop owner wouldn't give it. even though i already paid for it.. dont know why he woudl want it..
