had my car for an hour and somethin broke
well around 1 today i picked up my new 97 eclipse gs. about an hour later i was pullin in my friends driveway and noticed i had no power steering. so we popped the hood and the serpintene belt fell off. my dad looked at it and figured out my pulley/bearing for my power steering was bad so it caused the belt to fall off track. If i take this belt off is the car still driveable? and is there any sites online were i can buy a new power steering pump and pulley or can i just get the bearings somewhere? thanx for any help guys

taking the belt off is fine, i had to do it for a while when i broke a power steering line. You just wont have power steering. As for the parts, why not just go to a local parts store.

if you broke the serpentine belt i would not drive it because it also runs the water pump. but if its the power sreering one, then youll be fine. it will just be hard to drive when your bearly going.

well the power steering pump was missing a bolt, which caused the pulley to not be alligned right so the belt kept coming off. so I just got a new bolt and belt and its running perfect now. But, would not having the belt on for a couple hours cause my check engine light to come on? because i dont think it was on before this all happened, but i could be wrong

if the check engine light is on then head down to the nearest autozone and have them run the code for free to see what its giving you. The bad belt shouldnt cause that to happen
