Default Hesitation problem!

My roomates 96 eclipse is hesistating a tad in first and quite abit downshifting into 2nd from third. The car kinda bounces front to back before fully taking off. I dont think Its clutch Im pretty sure its an engine issue. I also here some popping from the engine, like maybe backfiring. I am not really sure what to start looking at on this car. Any ideas? Sorry, Im use to my jeep where I can fix it with a 1/2 wrench and some bailing wire. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanx!

My 95 Eclipse rs mainly hesitates after about 10 miles of driving. It mainly hesistates during accleration.....it feel like i have no power, very sluggish. It also doesn't crank over sometimes.

I had a problem like that with my Galant. When I would pull up to a stop sign, then accelerated after, it would hesitate before going. I just got new plugs and a basic tune-up and it went back to normal.

yea try a basic tune up plugs, wires, fuel filter, pcv, air filter...if not that then suspect the mass airflow sensor...is your engine light on...if it is take it to autozone or advanced auto they can scan it and tell you whats wrong.
