how much psi? 420a
I'm getting a turbo and i'm going to put 8:8.1 forged pistons, pins and rods on my 420a engine. what's the maximum psi i can put on it? and what else should i put on it to make it safer?
your probably gonna need some better fuel system i think and something to tune it. Then an intercooler. But if i remember correctly the stock block could handle around 10 or something so you should be at least higher than that. Try a search on here cuz there are alot of good threads on this already
He means something like a SAFC II, which allows you to tune your engine and I believe it has a built in turbo timer on it. Your going to want this to be able to finely tune your engine allowing way better horse power, even if the turbo kit you have comes with one to trick your engine to deliver more fuel, I recomend getting a SAFC II.
with forged pistons and rings you can run close to 12-13lbs without worrying about throwing a rod but since you are already rebuilding your enine... i'd spend the extra 290-300 bucks and get some eagle rods. after that you can boost to he max that your head internals will push (about 19-20 lbs). and SAFCII is something that will help but if you are spending that much money you might as well get a cheap engine managemend... it's much better and you can fine tune much better with it. the point of tuning is 1 to get the most HP out of your motor and also to make sure that you are not pulling timing or damaging your motor. changing the compression in an chamber of an engine can really mess it up over time without proper adjustments to the air/fuel ratio. i'd also suggest getting a wideband, boost gauge. if you plan on running more than 9-10 lbs you'll need to upgrade your fuel injectors and get a larger fuel pump. anything over 14-15psi and you'll need to begin upgrading your electrical, ignition, plugs, wires etc. (better to run a colder plug on a turbo'd engine anyways) and don't forget once you do turbo it you'll need to be running higher octane to keep form dedination and engine problems.
don't bother with the fuel pump for now. i'd get the boost gauge and safcII for now if i ahd to chose from 2. that way you know that you aren't overboosting and you wil be safely funning boost and know that you aren't injuring the car. just don't go over 10lbs until you get your new fuel pump.
Do you think that the turbo could be installed by a non-professional? i have all the tools to do it and a mechanic but he doesn't know how to install it(he's the one who is changing the pistons.
