silvercoupe97 thanks bro. i appreciate that...but the thing is when i check my fluid it tells me that it's good and it don't need any could it still be a hose or crack?? and if it is how do i fix that just jackup the car n get to work???? and also i eventually wanna go turbo can my stock transmission take it or should i upgrade to a gst automatic tranny??
Its actully 3rd gear when "limp mode" is happening.. You should have Neutral, reverse, and 3rd gear.. I wouldnt just go and buy a new tranny.. Chances are, your getting a check engine light code.. That should give you a little insight on whats wrong with it. But could just be a gasket like silver said..
Here's some tranny fluid info.

If you don't hear grinding, I say it's eletrical or fluid related.
Chrysler auto trannys go into 2nd gear.
This was taken from Allpar.
...and
Taken from the Ultradrive (aka A604) wiki.

What's more, Chrysler was often not followed by others in their use of a "limp" mode, to take the driver home even in cases of control failure. The limp mode deliberately restricted the driver to second gear so the vehicle would be serviced.
...and
A604 to 41TE The most common problems with early A604 transmissions are poor shifting quality and sudden locks into second gear ("limp-home" mode), even during highway driving. Between January 1989 and July 1991, Chrysler tried 28 different changes to deal with A604 problems according to Chrysler's reference guide, "History of the A-604 Transaxle." Nine design changes were made in an attempt to fix clutch failure, and four were directed to "shift busyness", or excessive shifting on hills.

You also can't swap in 4G63 tranny (GS-T or GSX) because they use a different motor. You can only use the two trannys made for the 420a. You can swap in the 420a manual tranny, but that's it.
I found them from Allpar and the Ultradrive wikipedia, they're links in post 14. 3rd gear is too high though. That's more of 30-45-ish MPH. where 2nd is 20-35-ish MPH. I look more into it.

I dealt with limp mode for about 4 months going in and out of it.. And it is very much stuck in 3rd.. Where did you find that quote from?

Yes but once again read his post, the GS has a chrysler motor and tranny whereas you have a mitsubishi motor. So they are totally different and therefore dont function the same.

Oh i believe you. Like i said i have heard of both, people having it stuck in 2nd or third. Im almost wondering if it depends on what the computer has for a problem. Maybe if its a more serious Code then it goes into 2nd gear. IDK
