Default IAC?

I've read a bunch of posts on this, and I haven't exactly come to terms as how to solve this problem. When I turn my car on in the morning, the idle immediately goes up a little over 1K RPM's. Then immediately drops to about 200 RPM's, almost stalls, goes up to just below 1K RPM's, back down to about 400, and then finds a spot in the middle, and idles between 400-800. After it is warm, it idles within about 200 RMP's (600-800)

Even after it's warm, and I turn it off, when I turn it back on, it still almost stalls. Sometimes, it does stall, and I have to restart it. It seems to be more of an annoyance than a big problem. From what I read, the problem is probably the IAC. Where can it be located? I've searched for pictures of it, but came up with nothing. Can someone post a picture for me, or something? That would be cool, and I'd appriciate it. Thanks.

If when running the engine sounds like it's "hunting" going up and down in speed but never finding a happy medium then it's your IAC motor. It will be located on the TB somewhere (TB being the little piece of metal type piping after your air filter rubber type hose and before the intake manifold) Hope this all helps a bit.

just because the iac motor is hunting doesnt mean its bad though. you culd have a dirty tb, need to adjust the bis screw, etc

Nah I've never had an engine hunting be from need for adjustment of that screw. If the engine starts hunts then dies it may need that screw adjusted. Dirty TB I've never really seen cause it either BUT on the same note it's a quick easy fix. A little carb cleaner, old toothbrush and clean rag all you need to try that fix. A good start but not likely to fix the problem.

the hunting can be caused from needing an adjustment to that screw, ive seen it myself on my own car and fixed it on my own car after checking other things first. like i said it can be a number of things. go to vfaq.com and look up idle surge. theres all the info you need.

I had a pulsating idle and bought a $350 IAC valve for a 97' spyder...If you are going to go ahead and buy a new valve and plan on putting it on yourself...KNOW what your doing and where it is...it took us HOURS to put it on ..... make sure that you put your air intake together properly and all the sensors that are attached to it on again once your finished otherwise it wont work properly......you better make a decision on wether or not your gonna get on cause we waited to long and we wore a hole in the flexpipe from the pulsating ......

To me it does sound like a BISS screw just becuase between 600-800 sounds a bit low. I think my idle was set to between 800-1000. Most cars i believe are in the 800 range. I would definetely try that first before you spend money on an IAC
