ignition systems
Hey, i gotta get a new ignition, anyone have any suggestions... i dont know much about the different brands and the different styles. So if you could suggest what you think would be a good, then educate me as to why, that would be fantastic! thanks

RE: ignition systems
Coil on plug is, from what i understand, one of the best. Its more expensive because each plug has its own individual coil (thats right, no spark plug wires). Its better because sometimes there is energy lost in transit from the coil to the plug. The resistance in the wires is enough to make a difference. Also, the plug wires can arc too, causing bad spark. The coil on plug pretty much eliminates the possibility of failure in that department.
Another product thats pretty good, is the MSD ignition. They are just bad ***. They replace the stock coils and deliver a better spark.
Um, thats all i can think of!

i was thinkin msd, but i wasnt sure how well they ran with dsm's, i know our cars seen to be tempramental with certain parts... and for the coil on plug set-up, doesnt that just replace the wires and spark plugs?

RE: ignition systems
Do what sebba said get a msd box, and cop. i have the msd box and it works great. this is the one u should get the dis4 ho box. it will cost u about 500 bucks, and the cop will cost under 400 bucks. but its worth every penny.

RE: ignition systems
the whole point of an ignition box is to boost voltage to the coil primaries which in turn increase the spark voltage across the gap. most ignition boxes can put as much as 500V ( not a typo ) across the coil terminals.
myseld im partial to MSD, and like digital ignitions like the crane units due to their cool runing power supplies and CDI capabilities.
in which case at low RPM's and whererich running conditionsare presentwould eliminate misses due to multipe sparks on 1 ignition cycle!!
combine both COP and a CDI ignition box and you can pretty much light any mixture you can throw at it !!!
also as far as the crane boxes go theres a few options that you might like..
for example... 2 stage rpm limitin where the secondary is activated by grounding the apropriate wire that can in turn be set where set the disired rpm and it will sequentially cut the spark to every other cylinder on the firing order
on turbo cars this is great due to alowing you to dump the fuel into the exhaust manifold where it will ignite from the next ignition cycle which will cause a violent spool but also will drive the temps through the roof just like any anti lag scheme.
anyway...
here's a link to the unit that i have...
