I have this terrible knocking noise from my engine whenever i start it up. Ive put in oil and it goes away a little bit but comes back. Also when I go idle in traffic i notice A LOT of (i think) blue tinted smoke coming out of my exhaust which would mean its burning oil, right? Has this sort of bitter smell to it.

Ive been told this could be a variety of things. Such as my lifters, seals, and stuff like that.
Im new to the car world and this is my first post in here.

The car i have is a 98 eclipse rs.
with about 128k miles on it.

 

Im thinking headgasket, look under your oil cap and see if there is any white foam looking stuff.

 

whenever i put in oil ( about once every 2 weeks) i do not see any white foam on it.
Im still in high school so i do not know much about cars yet.
And removing the head gasket seems like a big task lol

 

Yea its a pretty good undertaking to say the least. Do you have any other problems with the car such as overheating. And this noise your talking about,how loud is it? Oh and do you have a CEL showing.

 

sounds like valveseals to me. have you noticed any loss in oil lately

 

He did say he has to add oil every two weeks, so im assuming hes either has a good leak or is burning oil.

 

The car WAS overheating a little until i got an oil change.
Now it seems fine.
The noise is pretty loud whenever i start it up. Its really loud in the morning, but ive heard because the car hasnt warmed up yet.
Negative on the check engine lights.

 

so once the car warms up does the sound go away, and does it only make this sound at idle?

 

it makes it when i start the car up and you can somewhat hear it when idling in traffic.
Can also feel it a little bit in the steering wheel

 

is it a ticking cuz thats probably just the lifters. I would try and do a compression check on the cylinders
