I'm waiting for my Walbro 190 to come in, and I noticed a small wet spot under the oil filter on the driveway. So, I jack up the car to see that the bolts and flange that connect to the downpipe are dripping. the liquid appears to be the same as what is in the coolant reservoir. It has no odor, and it isn't oily. there is no liquid on the block, or above the flange that I can see. The upper heat shield will not come off, so I can't see anything under it.

I haven't run the car since Saturday night, and this started Monday. odd. Does anyone know where this liquid could be coming from? I can't find any lines coming from the coolant or radiator directly to the exhaust manifold area.

 

coming loose from the turbo perhaps? You need to get that heat shield off dude.

 

I've broken my 3/8" - 1/4" socket adapter trying to take it off. It just sheared clean off. I don't want to strip the head on the bolt. any suggestions?

There isn't any fluid on the turbo flange at all. it looks as if there is a leak above the downpipe braket. the fluid is on top, so it would be logical to "assume" that the leak is above that. The only issue is that I can't see above it.

What else is above this flange?

 

well if it isn't oily then it is eaither coolant or just water condensation. Where do you live? There are two coolant hoses that connect to the turbo, it could be one of those.

 

That sounds about right. I just can't get to those hoses. I'm going out now to try and get the shield off. Hopefully I don't ruin the bolts.

 

just be carefull, if they feel like they are stripping stop and live with the oil leak or whatever is leaking cuz you are screwed if you strip the head

 

I haven't messed with the heat shield like I said I would. Instead I pulled all the panels out of the interior hatch, cleaned the altezza lights, worked on the window washer lines, and replaced any missing panel screws.

I jacked the car up, and was able to get a good look at the leak. the culprit...the upper coolant line to the turbo. I have a Hanes manual, and it has an exploded view of the turbo assembly. I was able to clean off the fittings and watch as more coolant leaked out. it does it maybe 1 drip every 2 minutes. livable but aggravating.

I have aftermarket headlights on, and I believe they are for the 2Ga models. I can't find an adjustment screw on either of them. the driver's side is low by about a foot at 25'. grrr.

Neither of the fenders, the front bumper, or the rear bumper panel holes are drilled. The woman I bought the car from just had them tuck the tabs under one another.
Guess I'll be ripping panels off tomorrow.

 

Go down to the store and but some liquid wrench, then one night when you don't have to go anywhere the next day put some on the shield bolts and let it soak, it should come off that way, don't try anymore untill you do that.
