Lining up Timing Belt

Lining up Timing Belt
I'm replacing the water pump on my sons 1997 Eclipse. After trying to remove the crank pulley bolt trying to avoid making the timing belt slip it did. Is there a way to align the crank, cam, and oil pump gears with the timing belt and timing belt cover off? Is it as simple as lining up all three marks then reinstalling the belt? I'm thinking no because the crank needs to be #1 DTC. There has to be a way since it is done when the engine is put together.
Any help would be great.
TIA
