lookin for a turbo kit for 96 eclipse rs
hey, i am/will be in the market for a full turbo kit in the near future... only i really have no idea where to look and exactly what to look for... im look for a full kit, like the one in JEGS for the honda/acura models... turbo, intercooler, piping, etc... everything i need... what should i do and where should i look??? thanks for the help
well you have about 7-10 grand to spend to make your motor turbo ready if you havent already done the work.. i mean sure you can boost with a turbo on your stock motor.. prob a limit of 5 lbs safely.... even after you do that low of boost your motor will wear down too fast.. you need to do a rebuild if you want to get out what your putting in to your turbo on that motor... after you rebuild your motor plan on spending 2-3 grand on your turbo kit.... RC had a thread about this a few links down from yours... check it out.. a guy lists pretty much everything you need to do/rebuild before your really ready for it... check it out... remember (I KNOW RC DOESNT LIKE TO HEAR IT) but there are turbo eclipses out there if you dont mind gettin outta your car and into a new one

Facts known
-injectors max out at 10 psi
-rings fail after 13 psi
-rods bend/snap at 15psi
-stock pistons melt at 15psi
-ignition system obsoleat at 15psi
From what you have listed It sounds like you want to go big. So you will deff need a new bottom end, www.exileracing.com, compleat short block for 1800. That includes oil pump remanafactured and balanced crank shaft, milling oil pump, bearings, forged rods, forged pistons, total seal rings, block honed and blueprinted.
Next youll need a head job, the head on the 420a flows pretty well but if your going with high performance you will want a good port job. www.Conceptillusions.com offers a good service for 400 its a total port, its so nasty that you NEED a bigger throttle body, intake manifold(aftermarket or ported) and the exaust manifold ported. Also you will need new valve seals, seeing how there will be alot of stress on the old ones. I also reccomend new springs, valves, rockers, and retariners. All of that can cost up to 1400, or atleast thats what I priced out for me self for a compleat built head.
For the turbo the the hahn 2nd stage comes with a nice turbo that can easily support 300 hp. If you want higher than that you will want to get something like a s20g. The fmu that comes with the kit sucks and should be replaced with a vortech sfmu(rock soild fuel pressure every time). The Injectors that come with the kit max out at 15psi also, matterfactly the whole fuel system maxes out at 15psi. That needs to be replaced with eiter a 8 injector setup (portfuler or custom) or a standalong unit which is more expensive. Turbo kit 3,000 + portfuler 1500 comes to 4500.
The igntion is no big deal get an kit from www.howellautomotive.com 700 shells, colder plugs 12 shells, wires, 80 shells. Thats got you for 791.
Lastly cluch/tranny. I cant even give you a guess on how much a stave v cluch is going to run you. If you do need a new tranny I recomend the neon r/t 420a tranny, that can go for 1200.
Altogather be expected to spend anywhere from 9600 and up, my prices are rough and do not include the cost of labor, shipping, tax, or other little odds and ends. After that you can really mess people up... on the track that is. Like I said before it depends what you want. If you do everything that I listed you car is going to be pretty serious, low 12's. Me on the other hand I wnat a built bottomend and a built head to run 15psi, no more. I'll be low 13's and thats fine for me but if you want faster that ^^^^ is what your going to have to do.
(my bad that is supposed to be in quotes)

ok here is some real priceing I just had my motor rebuild Long block 1200 and that is for strict NA i asked how much it would be for a turbo ready longblock able to handle 12+ psi 1685 W/tax FULL LONG BLOCK! not a we will add the manafold and throtle body 600 full exhaust 250-300 injectors 200 clutch 200. turbo kit 3000. now i called a tranny axel specialest on the tranny after 300+hp and the price to rebuild it to make it sufficant is 700
Motor cost for turbo ready W injectors and manafold= $2485
full haun kit on car safe to use stock tranny 250-275hp= 5485 this is just slightly higher than selling your car and buying a used gsx/gs-t.
full car not just turbo ready= 6385 and that is pushing + 300hp
so like i said look in the right places macinest local shop and some web stuff and it will cost less than 7G to make 300+hp. as for the times you run i beleve that alot of that has to do with tunning the car to oyur needs if it is an everyday driver 12+ psi is fine but think of it this way with gas prices are you relly going to run that all the time?
yeah, i realize people always are asking, "what do i do to make my engine turbo ready?" "how do i do this?" "how do i do that?", lol... but i know all of that, and have people to help me with stuff i dont know about, but what i was just wonderin is if anyone knew or had any suggestions as to where i could find a good turbo kit at... most of time when you find full kits u see them only made for acura or honda, etc... but for me, so far its been hard finding a good full turbo kit for my eclipse...

.... any way to clearify, the hahn/star kit are MEANT to work on a stock motor. 8-10 psi(BTW both kits come w/ after market injectors). Therefore, really to prep you motor for a turbo kit all you need to do... get a hold of some colder plugs, and change the tank to 92 octain before the install. Also for the motor rebuils. I can throw a motor togather in my basement for 1g, or I can get a pro to do it in a shop for 2g. There are many different ways to do it and people charge differently for time and parts so just drop it.... BTW the 420a is a short block. Turbo kits, Star makes one hell of a kit if you want to go big(already comes externally gated) where the Hahn is good for those that want a really good rep+customer service with the same quality(personally I'd take the Star). There is Conceptillusions.com, but their kits are for those would would like to build their own but cant weld too good. Lastly their are other companys like TSI performance whos kits are realitvly unknown.
