Default Looking at a 97 Eclipse

Hey. I own a 3G Eclipse GT, which I love, by the way! My friend is looking at a '97 Eclipse GS Spyder with 170k miles. The guy is asking 2200 for it. Seems like an ok deal to me. But, I thought I'd check with some o' y'all! It does have a few issues, though. He said that the fuel pump is bad on it. Does anyone know: are the fuel pumps on that particular car difficult to replace, or expensive, and where can we find one? And, someone said that it is inside of the fuel tank, so you need to replace the whole tank. Is that right? Also, he said there was a busted radiator line. I haven't had a chance to look at the negine at all yet, so hopefully that one's gonna be an easy one to replace. But, anyways... Some feedback would be much appreciated. Basically, do y'all think it's worth it? And, how difficult is it to replace a fuel pump? Thanks!

Id offer less... But the fuel pump is more of a pain in the *** then anything.. You dont have to replace the whole tank.. But its one of those things that you will be swearing at because things wont go the way you want... It wouldnt be bad, but it sounds like the car is in a little rought shape so Things wont go perfect for ya.. Not that expensive of a fix though..

i'd go less on the price also. $2200 for a GS that needs work and has a 170K on it sound like to much to me....

fuel pump isnt hard to change out. Its so easy to get to and simple to remove. Sometimes it can be a bit difficult to get out if the opening under the seat is kinda tight but that it. It should be a pretty cheap fix. I dont know about a radiator line though. It depends if its a coolant line which is metal and where it is, or if its just a hose

i'm not sure what yall have been doing wrong to change out a fuel pump on these things but it was a 15 minute job for me... if not less!!! it was my first time changine one out to. pull up back seat, remove 4 screws, remove 6 or 7 8-10mm nuts, pull hose and electrical connector off, pull pump out, connect new one, reinstall... literaly took me 15 mins. the radiator HOSES are easy and cheap to replace but if it's a "line" like the metal ones.... that's a different story. and if the guy doesn't knwo what he's taklin about than it may bea simple fix like a thermostat.

Its not that hard to change the fuel pump. The hardest part is to get the nut apart underneath in order to pull the pump out. Any bolt under the car for 10 years will never be easy unless you have a lift and you dont have to lay on your back. The worst part is to make sure you dont kink the lines because then you will be replacing the whole assembly. Also make sure everything is sealed back up properly there have been people that dont this and leaked fuel into the back seat inside the car.

I did mine on a GSX I dont know if its the same as a GS but it cant be that much different.

Edit.... go to this site and click on fuel. Then click on one of the fuel pump swaps to give you an idea of whats involved http://vfaq.com/index-main.html

Good Luck.
