That's not a bad price for the KYB's, I guess it's all about matching a Spring set to a Shock set. Tein has some pretty good quality springs, i've never heard of them sagging or anything. Well if it's working for you, then we should include that in our list of recommendations.
I am running the Tein S-Tech springs and Tokico Illumina's but that is because I am FWD.
For a conservative setup I would go with something NONadjustable Koni Red's and a good coilover like Ground Control Coilover Kit or Skunk2 since you are AWD.
From experience the best setup besides the JIC ($$$) is the Type-Flex system. You can control the dampning from the inside of your car with control box.
The list of possibles are:
B+G Coilovers $1,800.00
Apex'i World Sport Dampers $1,288.00
Ground Control Coilover Kit $399.00
Intrax ARS Coilovers $1,700.00
JIC FLT-A2 Coilovers $1,799.00
Tein Type Flex Coil Overs $1,430.00
Tein Type Basic Coil Overs $1,000.00
Tein Type SS Coil Overs $1,000.00
Tanabe Sustec Pro S-SII $1,000.00
Tanabe Sustec Pro S-S $1,200.00
Tanabe Sustec Pro S-OCII $750.00
Tanabe Sustec Pro S-OC $950.00

Maybe I will be picking your brain here in a few months.
HMMMMMMM 04 Cobra MMMMAAAYBE, mwuahahahaahaha.
Good stuff man. I have been in the DSM thing for quite some time now.
FYI: Your Eclipse is considered DOMESTIC by the US Government. 70% American 3-% Japanese (engine/transmission)
Tell that to your V8 buddies. HAHAHA

Yea Yea I know, lol[8D] I love those cobras, the 03's were so hot when they first came out. I have two friends I graduated high school with who are mechanics at a ford/toyota dealership. I know the foxes better than the newer ones but I still know those better than most others.
You are thinking of it right, yes.
Spring rates (higher is ruffer ride=stiffer) will determine the ride. Quality of the company and components will also determine. This is one of those areas that the namebrands have the market. JIC, HKS, and Tein are making the best systems out there.
Tein has nice system developed to lower the ride to your liking and also gives you the capabillity to control the dampening (bumpiness) from the cockpit.
Good Luck. And your BF would be asking for them on his car if he had your car.

I've spent most of my years on muscle cars and V8's.
