i am really surprised by the rampant anti-420a talk...the factory FI guys need to realize that 'while its only a neon motor', they can be built just like any other motor...
yes, the 4g63 is stronger stock...Stock..
but with ALL of the neons sold, performance parts became in demand, and now there are soem very fast 420a powered cars running around, both FI and NA

Many of you guys that remember me from a while back know I've always been a member here and been through several different setups....4G64 with head swap and turbo along with a GSX I have now and my daily driver is a 99 Eclipse GS OZ edition that I have turbo'd. Those blocks are very strong to a point. The weakness in the motor is the rods. You can run around 9 psi on it daily driven for a while. I drove around 10K miles on 10 psi before I pulled the motor and put JE pistons with Eagle H-beams and stock crank. I have a slight port on the head with crane springs and retainers. I now run 14 psi daily and 18 occasionally if I ever feel the need. The 420a has a few more steps in making it fast but truthfully its worth every bit of it. There are aspects of that motor that you don't deal with on the 4G63....Timing... Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents...
I can't remember what the rating on the rods is...450HP? i think??.....for the 420a thats ALOT of power and most will never reach that point. Especially being front wheel drive its extremely expensive to make them fast with that much power. I've been very happy with my block and its only a .020 bore with standard JE low comp. pistons, standard H-beams, Melling oil pump, ARP Main Bolts, ARP Head Studs, and Stock Crank. Only problem with the 420a is injectors. I maxed my stockers out at 5 psi due to wear and tear and being clogged. The car is no competition for my gsx by any means but i'm sure if i spent the same amount of money on it as i did the gsx I'd have something to deal with.
