manny tranny Q? and clutch Q?

RE: manny tranny Q? and clutch Q?
ill take my metal TOB that came with the centerforce clutch over the original squealing rattly one
my book says the manual trans takes regular motor oil, 10w40 normally, mine had gear oil in it & was extremely slow to shift, plus that can cause it to lock up since theyre not designed for that thick of oil
i changed it to motor oil & its better, but i still cant bang gears like my neon, DSM synchros suck sports car with a transmission that shifts like an old dump truck

Motor oil in the tranny? 75W90 gear oil is definitely too thick for it. GM Syncromesh, BG Syncroshift, Redline MTL/Redline MT90 is what most DSMers swear by (manual tranny that is). You might want to try one those Racer instead of motor oil for faster shifting

TOB just pushes on the pressure plate, they take no other abuse than that, its having the clutch it and revving cars to 8,000 rpm constantly is what trashes the TOB - Dont be afraid to use a new metal one, if it wears through the pressure plate fingers its all been run too long to begin with
ill try some sychromesh, maybe the royal purple even?? my book tells me motor oil is the factory spec, this is an AWD transmission it may be different, my trans jumps out of 4th gear at random so it might just be worn out
i dont like this short sifter, im out of adjustment & its just retarded, shorter throw yet sloppy and too close to the console

LOL.. Yah the design of the console is not smart. Try redline. When i got my car the shifting was not the greatest and 1st and 3rd were hard to get into. I changed it and it became smoother and 3rd gear was easier. But now my tranny has hored itself up. It was on its way to doing that anyways. Just never expected so soon. Good thing is the replacement tranny has LSD and my original didn't... WOOT

wow so the TOB that came with my clutch masters is junk?

Racer,
That slop you speak of is contributed to the shifter bearings on the tranny and the rubber shims/spacers under the shifter plate, not to mention, possible play on the shifter's pivot point. Key items for those is, skateboard bearings, washers, and new shifter (if old stock one)

no actually i have good bushings in the ends of the cables, that shifter is just a generic heap of **** that came with the car when i bought it, i'd rather have the stock one but he couldnt find it like the rest of the pieces of the car
