Need Advice About to Buy 1999 Eclipse spyder
hello i need some advice.. im about to buy a 1999 eclipse spyder GS... car has 143,000 miles on it with a brand new top... paint job is brand new and body is in good condition besides some cracks in the front bumper and a spot on the passenger side fender... not really big deal.... now the guy says he has changed the battery alternator and put in a new mass air flow sensor.. the check engine light is on and he says it is just because the computer needs to be reset since he put in a new mass air flow sensor? how true is that? this is my first time looking to buy an eclipse.. he wants 1600 for the car which i think is a very good deal.. any advice on what to look for when buying these cars? inspection is also good until 2010 so i dont have to worry about that... what do you guys think? thanks.. by the way the car is an automatic

b4 u buy the car see if he has maintence records those come in handy.as far as anything else that depends , personallyi would put it on a lift and go over it with a fine tooth comb , auto zone will clear the code for you for free but i wouldn't buy it until you pull the codes for yourself find out what they are so you know what your getting into.

The front bumper guard cracks are common. The sypders have a VERY low clearance. You can buy a car bra and cover it up much cheaper than replacing it and it will look "cool"
It seems a good price and they are a blast to drive. Like the last poster suggested take it somewhere and have the computer code(s) pulled that are causing the check engine light to illuminate.
I bought my 2001 Spyder for $5000 with a few problems (A/C bad, warped front rotors) that I suspected and confirmed now. It has 114,000 miles. Have them perform a check of all the major systems and suspension. You might also pull a Carfax report using the VIN number.
