i have an eclipse RS 97 the engine was burning oil and smoking i forgot to check on oil for about 4 weeks, when my engine broke down i didnt have a single drop of oil in my engine, the fact is that i need a new engine but my car is the type that has all the belts on the pasanger side, i been looking at pics and most eclipse about 95% has the engine belts on the drivers, My mechanic claims that these engines (the one with the belts on pasenger side) are hard to find and cost a lot more than regular engines he is trying to charge me about 1200 for the engine and 500-600 for labor. my questing is is he trying to rip me off? is there any rebuilt method that would be less expensive? what do you think should be the average price for this engine is a mitsubishi eclipse RS 97 2.0 DOHC
Thanks

Why dont you just swap in a GSX engine? Although I dont know if you can hook it up to your front wheel drive drivetrain. you should post thread asking if this is possible because I have a 97' GSX and it Rocks!!!

Here is a suggestion if you have a standard set of metric wrences and csocket wrences and a cherry picker"not needed just makes it easy" you can pull the motor with easy. than take it to a local macinest and have him overhaul redo what ever you want to call it to teh motor. i just had mine done and it cost me $1300 to replace all parts in the head port and polish the head boar the pistons .25 and ballance the whole motor "includes new pistons turing of crank if needed all new berrings for lower end all new parts, block was boiled out like new."
