I know ebay has some JDM engines for a reasonable price. Theyve advertised less than 60k on a motor. Overseas dealers.

Personally Ive considered pickin up a project 420a and frankensteining the bottom end of the 2.4l chrysler motor to the 420a. Or just boring it out and beefing up the internals, doin all the work, while still drivin the car.

Or maybe if you find it cheap enough, maybe the new motor will cost less than a rebuild. I mean, a timing kit alone for these things is a couple hundred, and if youre doin a head gasket or somethin, you gotta get the gaskets, you have to send out the head to have it resurfaced, depending on the condition of the motor, new pistons, definitely rings, all new gaskets on top of that timing kit. Thats several hundred on rebuilding on a basic scale, over a grand if you went and bored it out, requiring bigger pistons, threw in eagle rods, perfromance camshafts, beef it all up for a turbo...

<snapping back from that daydream XD>Point is, it could be cheaper to swap a motor if you have the stuff to do it yourself. I found a 99 RS in the junkyard, totaled with a good motor and 5spd tranny, I coulda bought the whole thing for 500 if I had the money... and a way to drag it onto a flatbed

well i dont know a whole lot about engines and i have no experience (or way, for that matter) to do it myself. im starting school this fall, and since im not going to be able to work as much, id like to know my car is in good shape for at least the next year, having 190k on the dash. so im not trying to neccessarily have it fast, just reliable.

well then just stick to the regular maintenance. There is no point in doing an entire engine rebuild if you are only looking for another year or so out of it

well id like to keep this car as long as possible. i absolutely love it. while im here, sometimes one of the pulleys to the left-front of the engine, under the resevoir, squeals very loudly for about 5 minutes straight, but only about once every 3 days, regardless of road or weather conditions. i check my resevoir cap everytime and its snug, so im assuming its not anything splashing out onto it. any idea as to why this may be?
