Default New to the DSM world

I have a 98 Spyder GS and I'm looking to make some upgrades. I've read a few posts and know that the engine is the 4g64, same as the 00-03 3g's. But I haven't seen anything about exterior mods. The Spyder has the same body lines as a hardtop GS right? meaning same tail lights, bumper and side skirts, headlights, hood, and all that good stuff? I'm just looking to make some suddel (sp?) upgrades and spruce up the look of the car too.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the boards!

Body wise, there is no difference between the GS and the Sypder GS (except the obvious convertible top lol).
Yes, you have the 2.4ltr 4g64 motor. Its not a "fast" car by any means.
You can do some small things to improve that, intake/exhaust/throttle body/intake manifold/etc.
But he fun thing about the n/a Eclipse, is making it look good. Theres a million and a half options for making a jaw dropping beautiful car.
When you buy parts for the car though, make sure you getting parts for a 97-99.
The 95-96 Eclipse is different in the body department. 95/96 is commonly referred to as 2gA, and 97/98/99 is referred to as 2gB.

Good luck with the car and talk with us if you need any advice/help/etc.

welcome to the forums. just put in a search on yahoo, google etc for 2g eclipse body kit, carbon fiber hoods, lambo doors, performance parts. etc etc etc.. another good place to look is ebay. They say do NOT buy a cf hood on ebay, and do NOT buy a body kit... i bought both for my GS from ebay and the kit fit perfectly and the hood outlasted my car lol. good luck. put some pics up when you get a chance. later

oh btw. a quick way to bolt up some good hp gains is to bold up a 1g-t or 2g-t head to your 4g64 block. it bolts right up and gives you much better flow through ur cylinders. i'm not sure the exact hp gain but i think it's close to 10-15whp.

a head swapisbeniffical but you loos a lot of tq from the lower cr. which is whythe 2.4 was put in the spyder. if you get a1g head you have to get the intake for it to since the injectors bolt into the head and not the mani. with a 1g you should exect to gain 20-25 hp a 2g 15-20 due toe the size of the ports. also it isnt just a bolt on swa you need to lug 5 wholes on the block with freeze plugs. this is cause the 2.4 sohc head has 5 oil drain galleys and the dohc doesnt. it also doesnt cover them so you have to lug them. you will get better high rpm ower but loose it low. so either way you have to sacrifice some where. Unless you get matching pistons to rais the cr back to around 9.

also i wouldnt say the spyder isnt a FAST car. it is by now means slow just not as fast as a 4g63T.
i mean granted my syder with a few mods ran alow 17. but there are slower cars...But you can make it equaly as fast or faster than the 4g63T cause of the dislacement. also there are tons of disscussion boards just on the 4G64 motor. if you want power search 4g64 turbo. it is baisicly the 4g63 turbo motor just its stroked from the factory. and n/t.

a lot depends on how far you want to go with it all in all its your decision we are just hear to help point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the insight. This may sound like a dumb question, but is there a trick to getting the lens off for the fog lights? I bought new bulbs for them cause my one burnt out, but there are tamper proof torque screws on the front of the lens where I would think you would have to take off to get to the bulb, unless i'm missing something here. Anyone got any ideas?

Go from behind the lense.
I *think* there are 4 screws behind it.
The bulb should then turn out.
