New Engine for 96 GS-T?
hi, im thinking of buying an 1996 eclipse GS-T Turbo (used of course).
the car has 228,000km, (140,000miles) on it. im worried that with such a high mileage, the engine may not last too long? from experience, how many more KMs or miles can i get out of this considering it was kept and maintained decently?
if the mileage is too high, is it possible for me to replace the engine?
-how much would it cost for a new engine?
-is it even possible for me to find a new engine for this? turbo and everything. (same engine as a stock eclipse gs-t)
the car's asking price is 4000$ canadian right now. is it even worth paying that and buying a new engine? or should i totally forget about this car and search for something else?
thanks!

that really isnt that many miles if it looks maintained. I always check out the engine bay for oil leaks, check under the oil cap for white sludge (head gasket) take it for a test drive obviously. But there are plenty of them running with over 200k miles. Like any car its all in how its maintained. These engines are pretty decent. If you wanted you could also bring a compression tester with you and make sure the engine internals are good.

i see. i will be test driving it for sure. i dont know too much about the mechanics of cars, which is why i will be bringing a paid mechanic to inspect the car too.
IF i were to wish to replace the engine with a new one of the same model, would that be possible? or is this car too old that its impossible to find new engines for this model?
